Best Practices in Camp Safety
Seneca Hills is an ACA-member camp, which means we work follow the standards and best practices in camping as defined by the American Camp Association to make health and safety practices the very best they can be.
Our staff undergoes two weeks of training to prepare for many situations that may occur indoors and outdoors at camp.

Our Focus is On Safety
Staff
We invest significant time in the hiring process for our staff. Prospective staff go through a comprehensive application process which includes a reference check, an intensive application, and a personal interview. An extensive and immersive training program is provided at the start of each summer season and required for all summer staff.
Staff members are trained on topics such as child development, how to recognize, prevent, and act against bullying, behavior management, risk management, emergency procedures, how to share the gospel, first aid and much more. During the summer, staff are supervised and evaluated by members of our camp leadership team and full-time staff. All staff members are required to have their Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, and Federal Criminal History Record Information also known as the FBI clearance.

Health Center
Seneca Hills’ Health Center has camp nurses on staff most weeks in the summer to keep everyone safe. We also have a range of OTC medications available to handle most situations. During the registration process, you can indicate which medications are and are not permissible for your camper.

Medication Policies
Seneca Hills staff supervises the provision of medication at each meal and before bed. Medications must be brought in original containers with the camper’s name attached. Medications other than inhalers and epi-pens must be given to the camp nurse at check-in, and our camp nurse will administer the medication. Medications will be returned during pick-up.

Parent Contact
In the case of sickness or injury, parents and guardians are always made aware by our medical personnel or an executive staff member.

Visitor Policy
Visitors are discouraged from coming to camp during the summer camp sessions. However, if visitors do show up, they are to head to the office to sign-in where they are given a visitor badge with a list of dos and don’ts. Visitors are not permitted on either boy’s or girl’s hill once camp is in session and are asked to leave at the conclusion of chapel in the evening.
